A new accessible kitchen for Finlay

From time to time, TST has the opportunity to work in partnership and enable transformative change for people who work in education, and their families.

When Alexa Woodcock set out to adapt her family's home for her son Finlay, a new kitchen built around his needs was at the heart of the plan. Alexa came to TST for help after realising that her five years' service in special needs education made her eligible to apply for financial support. TST recognised that it couldn't make a difference on its own, and introduced Alexa to Sullivan's Heroes.

Thanks to this partnership between Teaching Staff Trust and Sullivan's Heroes, that kitchen is now finished.

Sullivan's Heroes is a charity dedicated to building brighter futures for disabled children, helping families like Finlay's fund the home adaptations, equipment and therapies they need. Finlay's project, "An accessible home for Finlay," centred on a new kitchen designed around his access needs, with lowered worktops and open space beneath key areas so he can use the room independently.

Teaching Staff Trust was proud to partner with Sullivan's Heroes to help make the new kitchen happen, joining the funds raised by Finlay's family and community to get the project over the line.

The kitchen is now fitted and already making a real difference to daily life for Finlay and his family. It's a great example of what's possible when charities work together, and we're grateful to Sullivan's Heroes for the chance to be part of Finlay's story.
